A service role is a named team persona (for example, Senior Engineer, Design Lead, Project Manager, or QA Engineer) that you assemble into Configuration Templates and Quotation Configurations. Prophic’s WBS assigns tasks to service roles at generation time, so every estimate reflects the actual roles your team uses.

Where to find them

Open Configurations in the left navigation, then select Service Roles.

Add a service role

1
Open Configurations, then Service Roles.
2
Click Add Role.
3
Enter the role name.
4
Save the role.
Rates, hours per day, and buffer percentage are set on the Configuration Template that bundles this role, not on the role itself. A service role is just the persona name; the financial and scheduling settings live in the template.

How service roles appear in the WBS

At generation time, Prophic assigns each task to a service role drawn from the active project’s Configuration Template. When you later edit a task and change its role, the dropdown shows only the roles included in that project’s Configuration Template.

Editing service roles

Edits to a service role name apply to future generations. Existing WBS entries keep the role and rate that were captured at generation time.
Changing a service role does not retroactively recalculate existing projects. To update numbers in an active project, edit the WBS and click Recalculate after making your changes.

Configuration Templates

Bundle service roles with rates, hours per day, and buffer percentages.
